Many people who have never consulted a chiropractor are understandably nervous about their first visit. In order to better serve and educate our patients, we have included a brief introduction outlining your first visit at the clinic. This way, you know exactly what to expect before coming to the clinic. Upon entering the clinic, you will be warmly greeted by Louise, the chiropractic assistant as well as by Dr. Skolar. Before being treated, there are of course some brief questions that must be answered on your part. The process is as follows:
Brief Questionnaire Upon entering the clinic, we will ask you to fill out some brief paperwork concerning your overall health status. This provides us with very important information concerning yourself as well as your past medical history. This will help us a great deal in the examination process as well as in the creation of your personalized treatment plan designed for your specific needs
Consultation
Once the brief questionnaire is completed, you will have a one-on-one consultation with Dr. Skolar, Chiropractor to discuss your health-related problems and concerns. During the consultation, you will have the opportunity to ask as many questions as you wish. Questions pertaining to your health, chiropractic treatment options, as well as the safety & efficacy of treatment will be answered and discussed in great detail. Chiropractic health care will be introduced to better educate our patients on the myths and facts surrounding chiropractic.
History & Physical Examination
Dr. Skolar will perform a thorough and detailed medical history asking you specific questions pertaining to your overall health. The health history will focus on your specific and past health related problems or concerns. Afterwards, a number of specialized physical tests will be performed to determine the severity of your condition as well as to identify all of the related structures that are not functioning properly. The physical examination will also consist of a postural analysis, orthopedic and neurological exam.
X-Ray Examination
Your specific condition may require that radiographs (x-rays) be taken. This will allow us to further evaluate your condition, which will help rule out more serious conditions and assist us in developing the most effective treatment plan for you. X-rays are useful tools in visualizing bones beneath the surface of the skin that may be injured due to trauma or disease processes. This will help in pin-pointing a precise diagnosis. X-rays are not mandatory. It is after the history and physical examination that Dr. Skolar will make the decision as to whether x-rays are required.
Explanation of Physical Exam & X-Rays
After the physical exam and x-rays (if necessary), Dr. Skolar will provide you with a detailed explanation of all relevant findings pertaining to your health. A diagnosis will be established and treatment recommendations will be provided. Treatment options will also be discussed to determine the best course of action for your specific needs. You will also be provided with the prescribed treatment plan for the recovery for your condition.
